My journey as a veterinarian and udder health expert in Zambia

My name is Danstan Mwiinga, a dairy veterinarian in Zambia. I qualified in veterinary medicine in 2013 from the University of Zambia, located in Southern Africa. Growing up in a family engaged in cattle farming, I spent two years herding cattle in our village, which sparked my aspiration to become a veterinarian. I started milking beef cows in the village, where we did not even test the animals for Tuberculosis and Brucellosis, yet we also drunk the milk raw and at times straight from the teat of a restrained cow into the mouth. Reflecting on my journey, I can’t believe that I am now dedicated to educating all clients under our care about the importance of testing for Tuberculosis and Brucellosis.
